Quality Control

The incoming seeds are subject to a strict quality control. The examination of the seeds starts when the harvests are delivered and comes to an end when the seeds receive the national approval certification.

Seed processing

Each year, 50,000 tonnes of seeds are taken over, stored, cleaned, treated and prepared for certification at our seed centres in Leonding and Geinberg (both Upper Austria) and Neuhof (Burgenland). The technical equipment of SAATBAU LINZ is suited for processing seeds of all cereals, maize, oil and protein crops, green manure and feed plants but also for the production of seed mixes.

No compromise with seed quality

Each delivery is examined twice for infestation and also bulk density and humidity are determined. In the course of the cleaning process, several samples are taken and tested for infestation. Additionally, an automatic sampler takes samples continuously which are submitted to the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety AGES for approval. These samples are tested for infestation, thousand grain weight (TGW), germination capacity and healthiness – samples will be tested for a variety of diseases, depending on the treatment. After the sample has been approved, the seeds are treated, packed and random samples are checked again. Any seeds purchased undergo the same quality control process.

We have established strict internal guidelines in order to produce optimum quality.

Quality Management

It goes without saying that we strive to constantly improve the quality and safety of our products. Certification according to international standards is an important pillar in this process. Our sites and our products have been distinguished with a multitude of certifications.

Since 2016, our sites Linz, Geinberg and Neuhof have been GMP certified. This standard is ground-breaking for the feed industry. The products of our site Kefermarkt, where herbs and spices are processed, was recognised as kosher in 2017. In order to increase food safety and product quality, Kefermarkt and the Biogut Pöttelsdorf were certified according to the FSSC 22000 standard. These standards and regulations form the basis for a process of continuous improvement. SAATBAU LINZ sees its mission as improving quality in order to produce safe food and safe seeds.

Our quest to deliver the optimum for our customers has been and will be the basis of the success of SAATBAU LINZ.

Current certifications:
ISO 9001, ISO 22000 FSSC, HACCP, BIO, GMP+, Kosher.
